Student Practice Education

Orientation for Students and Faculty

Where to begin

Vancouver Coastal Health Student PlacementsWe have developed two checklists to help you prepare for your role in this learning experience.

The first checklist, Online Orientation checklist, helps guide you through our requirements and required online reading before your placement. This checklist must be completed, signed and returned to the appropriate Learning and Career Development office by the end of the first week of the placement

The second checklist, On Site Orientation checklist, helps guide you through the required information in the program or department on site orientation. There may be other checklists that the department has developed.

We ask students/trainees and on site faculty to complete the required learning by the end of the first week of your placement. This should take 30-60 minutes to complete.

We ask preceptors/field guides to take time to familiarize yourself with the site's contents prior to the student beginning the placement.

Come back to this online manual throughout the clinical placement. There is lots of information on this site that is 'good to know' and we are constantly updating it based on feedback from you. Please direct others to this site as well as a place to start when there are questions. This site is meant to be a resource for everyone involved in student practice education at Vancouver Coastal Health.

Print both of these checklists now and launch into the online orientation.
